Accolades

92 points - Tim Atkins: 2018 vintage. Lower in alcohol than in the past, as most of the Errázuriz reds tend to be these days, this is a youthful assemblage of Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The 25% new oak is still quite assertive, but this has the structure to age and appealing mint, cassis, green pepper and dark chocolate flavours. 2022-30

90 points - Robert Parker: 2018 vintage. The mild 2018 started with good water supply in Aconcagua, and the grapes used for the 2018 Max Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon from the inland part of the valley were balanced and healthy. The grapes fermented in stainless steel, and the wine matured for 12 monts in French oak barrels, 30% of them new. This variety sees a longer élevage than others, so I caught the wine still unbottled. It's classical and balanced, with clean aromas and a tender mouthfeel with fine-grained tannins.

Taste Notes

Eyes: Bright ruby red with violet hues of medium intensity
Nose: Red and black fruits such as raspberries, blackberries and cherries, accompanied by soft tone reminiscent of clove, liquorice and bitter chocolate
Mouth: Juicy and fresh acidity that enhances the plums, blackberries, a hint of pomegranate and raspberries pastries, fine-grained tannins that lead to a refreshing acidity that balances the whole, crowned by an excellent persistence

How to Enjoy

Pair with red meats and well-seasoned dishes.

Serving temperature: Room temp. at 16-20°C
Storage: Up to 3-5 days after opening

About Chile

Chile’s central valleys, sheltered by the costal ranges, and in some parts climbing the eastern slopes of the Andes, remain relatively warm and dry. The conditions are ideal for producing concentrated, full-bodied, aromatic reds rich in black and red fruits. The eponymous Aconcagua Valley—hot and dry—is home to intense red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot.

The Maipo, Rapel, Curicó and Maule Valleys specialise in Cabernet and Bordeaux Blends as well as Carmenère, Chile’s unofficial signature grape.

About Cabernet Sauvignon

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe. Inherently high in tannins and acidity, the best bottlings of Cabernet can age beautifully for decades.

Despite the modern importance and ubiquity of Cabernet Sauvignon, it is actually a relatively young variety. In 1997, DNA profiling revealed the grape to be a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc which took place in 17th century southwestern France.
