About Greywacke

The name Greywacke of Kevin Judd, founding winemaker of Cloudy Bay vineyards, was named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of their 1st vineyard located in Rapaura. Their quality focused winemaking sources fruit from mature vineyards in the Central Wairau Plains & the Southern Valley that are cultivated using yield restricted & intense canopy management techniques to ensure optimal concentration of grape aromas & flavors. The Greywacke portfolio consists mainly of Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir with some limited edition releases of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling, & Gewurtztraminer. Yellow fleshed ripe peaches, rock melon, & black currant with trace notes of sponge cake with lemon icing, chamomile and nuances of rose petal on the nose. It has a subtle & textural palate showing ripeness & concentration with a crisp, long, & juicy finish.
